Wayne Stewart

Most recently Wayne has performed the Chief Information Officer position for a tertiary education institution. This was a newly formed position, created to improve the alignment between the Information Technology Services (ITS) department activities and the requirements of the business. This also involved the development of an Information Systems Strategic Plan, the selection of a technology partner and improving the organisation, culture and motivation of the ITS department. Wayne was involved in several strategic initiatives over the 18 month contract.

Business Mechanix was contracted by an Auckland based University to manage and improve a division of the University. This division develops, supports and markets a Student Management System and a Research Management System tailored to the needs of New Zealand Tertiary Institutions. Wayne assumed overall responsibility for the division on an ongoing operational basis and at the same time introduced improved processes to change them into a more commercially focused software development organisation.

Contracted to liaise with a development company on behalf of a financial institution, Wayne was responsible for ensuring that all interests of the finance company were assured throughout a major system change and introduction of new complementary systems.

Wayne designed and implemented an inexpensive, yet fully functional, email solution for an Auckland based non-profit organisation. Business Mechanix arranged the Internet addressing, the setup of multiple email accounts, and configured their computers to share a single dial-up connection to the Internet.

Business Mechanix was contracted by a leading international Internet development company to review a badly performing business unit. The review highlighted significant improvements required. The company then contracted Business Mechanix to implement their recommendations by assuming the role of acting business unit manager. Wayne was able to transform the business unit from significant monthly losses to as significant monthly profits in as little as six months.

Wayne has reviewed the telecommunications of a number of companies, each time able to significantly reduce their expenditure. Wayne has good relationships with the major telecommunications companies that he is able to leverage to obtain the best rates and solutions possible.

Business Mechanix designed and implemented a wide area network solution for a chain of ten retail stores across New Zealand. The solution provided them with remote access by their point of sale system provider to enhance their support ability, connectivity between all stores for data transfer, and gave them the ability to send and receive email between the stores and the Internet. Wayne assisted the company to consider their business case and designed a highly cost effective solution, then utilised his knowledge of routers and firewalls to implement the solution.

Wayne assumed the role of acting IT Director for the New Zealand arm of an international corporate. This assignment provided the company with leadership through a period of change and reorganisation.

Wayne provided project management services to a company establishing in the Auckland CBD. The project spanned the acquisition of a building, the fit-out of their office space, and the launch of their company in Auckland.

Wayne has provided advice to a number of organisations, assisting them to maximise the return on their investment in technology through identifying potential cost savings, then assisting them to achieve those savings. He has assisted companies to develop e-Business strategies designed to take maximum advantage of emerging technologies. He has developed strategies for companies looking at e-Stores, e-Procurement, and general web presences.

Wayne has performed numerous supplier and product evaluations and selections for a variety of technology products and services from photocopiers to personal computer hardware and software to telecommunications systems.
